TheatreWorks’ New Works Festival in Silicon Valley, CA presented a panel discussion moderated by TheatreWorks’ Acting Director of New Works Tom Bruett, livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Sunday 18 August 2013 at 4 p.m. PDT (San Francisco) / 6 p.m. CDT (Chicago) / 7 p.m. EDT (New York).

TheatreWorks’ New Works Festival in Silicon Valley, CA panel discussion includes Charles Vincent Burwell, Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley, Sharon Kenny, Laura Marks, Janine Nabers, David West Read, and James D. Sasser. The panel will be moderated by TheatreWorks’ Acting Director of New Works Tom Bruett.

The Festival's featured playwrights and composers shared their anecdotes and insights into creating brave new works for the American Theatre. We encourage viewers from around the globe to participate in the discussion by sharing their questions for the group via Twitter, using #2013NWF and #howlround.

New Works Festival audience members participated by sharing their reactions directly with playwrights and composers, who continue to refine their works throughout the Festival. The 12th Annual New Works Festival runs August 10-18 at TheatreWorks at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto.

This year’s Festival features Laugh, an edgy new farce inspired by the slapstick comedies of Hollywood’s Roaring 20s, from Pulitzer-winning playwright Beth Henley; Cubamor, a saucy cross-cultural musical romance directed by Kent Nicholson; Mrs. Hughes, a sensational musical drama about the tangled lives of Sylvia Plath, her husband Ted Hughes, and his mistress Assia; The Great Pretender, a bittersweet comedy by David West Read (Broadway’s The Performers); and Gather at the River, a captivating comic drama from Laura Marks (Bethany) about a liberal New Yorker who volunteers for a non-profit run by a Bible-thumping Kentucky clan.
