2018 Latinx Theatre Commons (LTC) Carnaval of New Latinx Work Opening Ceremonies—Thursday 19 July 2018
Beginning on Thursday 19 July, the 2018 LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Work brought over 200 Latinx and allied theatremakers, scholars, and decision makers together in Chicago, Illinois, USA at The Theatre School at DePaul University for a new play festival and convening celebrating Latinx talent. The livestream of the Carnaval Opening Ceremonies shared the impulse and ethos behind this event, as well as the intention of creating authentic connections.
Carnaval 2018 was build upon the success of the 2015 LTC Carnaval of New Latina/o Work by featuring readings of six new plays. Each featured play—selected from a nationwide call—received development with a Latinx creative team including a director, dramaturg, actors, and designers. Carnaval participants had the chance to visit Chicago theatres for workshops, tours, and sessions with the aim of introducing national participants to the rich variety of Latinx companies and artists working in the city.
