IETM Focus Brussels 2022: "Beyond Fairness: Stories of Solidarity"

Brussels-based artist Anna Rispoli talks about the Common Wallet project.

Thursday 7 April 2022

IETM – International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts – presents a keynote "Beyond Fairness: Stories of Solidarity" by Brussels-based artist Anna Rispoli on The Common Wallet project. Livestreaming on the commons-based peer produced HowlRound TV network Thursday 7 April 2022 at 9 a.m. EDT (New York, UTC -4) / 2 p.m. BST (London, UTC +1) / 15:00 CEST (Brussels, UTC +2).

Fair Enough?

In 2022, IETM is opening a new chapter. It is time to figure out how each of us – no matter what role within the sector we play – can, in small and large steps, advance the fair and green transition of the performing arts sector. We intend to move from reflection mode to action mode and come together for network brainstorms in the coming years – under the title IETM Focus.

The first IETM Focus will be a space to explore, critique and improve our work practices and conditions. Are they fair enough? Human enough? What does “fair'' mean in your specific professional context? What practices and conditions can you and your organization change and what is beyond your power? Which actions could you take, to influence broader systemic change?

On 7 and 8 April, we are coming back to Brussels, the ‘city of diversity and contrasts’, for this two-day brainstorming event. Join us at this first IETM Focus Meeting, where we will outline the diverse and common strategies of IETM members for a fair, equal and inclusive performing arts ecosystem.

It goes without saying that we will also have enough time to meet new faces, network, catch up with old friends and colleagues, as well as experience the diversity of the Belgian performing arts scene.

Keynote session:
Beyond fairness: stories of solidarity

It is difficult to speak about fairness in the arts without speaking of precariousness, pressures, solidarity and the sustainability of our practices.

We don’t always have the freedom to do the right thing but out of necessity, sometimes, we are able to reshuffle some pieces of the puzzle around to place our values at the centre of our working models.

We have invited the Brussels based artist and activist Anna Rispoli to share her thoughts on solidarity and to open our afternoon with an inspiring example of the The Common Wallet project.
