RosenKabarett Anniversary Performance

by 4th Age Community Arts Center in Bucharest, Romania

Wednesday 18 September 2019

4th Age Community Arts Center presented the RosenKabarett Anniversary Performance livestreaming from Bucharest, Romania on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network on Wednesday 18 September at 12 p.m. EDT (New York, UTC -4) / 16:00 UTC +0 / 5 p.m. BST (London, UTC +1) / 18:00 CEST (Berlin, UTC +2) / 19:00 EEST (Bucharest, UTC +3).

RosenKabarett is the most recent production of the inter-generational team "4th Age". The performance relies on the performers' most lively memories – political events, personal or communal experiences that marked their existence. A grandmother you never met; a father who was arrested over 50 times; a job your grandfather had at the synagogue; the last letter sent by your grandmother from the ghetto; the day you won a car; the day you jumped off the balcony; the day you became an invalid; the disease that won't let you go to school or work; a lifetime love story; a lifetime without love. RosenKabarett investigates how the elderly refer to the past, to family and identity, love and sickness, memory and forgetfulness in a cabaret-collage of testimonies, documents, songs and dance.

In August 2009, an interdisciplinary group of artists first visited Moses Rosen – the Jewish community's retirement home. Ten years later, the artists and residents are a tight collective – they have engaged in a variety of artistic activities (story-telling workshops, theater, dance, film, photography, collage, drawing, etc.), founded the Community Arts project "4th Age" and produced nine theatre and dance performances.
