Golden Thread Productions and Aviva Arts collaborated in their response to the urgent call put out by ASHTAR Theatre to theatremakers around the world to publicly read or perform The Gaza Monologues on 29 November 2023, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People—a significant day for those who value justice, equality, and freedom for the Palestinian people.
The Gaza Monologues are testimonies written by ASHTAR youth in 2010, after the first war on the Gaza Strip. Tragically, these monologues are still accurate today. They are highlighting the horrors, hopes, and resilience of the courageous Gazans to a wider audience, bringing out the voices of children and people in Gaza.
Golden Thread and Aviva Arts' reading of The Gaza Monologues were presented in multiple languages.

Thank you to Howlround for having the chutzpah (Yiddish for balls) to post this! I am thrilled that the US theatre can actually share these beautiful and heart-breaking monologues that are so well performed and presented in spite of what feels like the constant pushback from zionists. As a Jew, I have been speaking out for ceasefire and an end to the zionist state that has been oppressing the Palestinians so severely for the past 75+ years, and this is one of the only places where this kind of theatre and these voices can be seen/heard. I also offer my play Abraham's Daughters, available as a podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/abrahams-daughters-by-emma-goldman-sherman/id1329778196?i=1000462709862 if anyone is interested. Produced by Iyvon Edebiri and Al Parker at The Parsnip Ship in 2019 with music by Aya Aziz, and directed by Dalia Ashurina. May there be peace.
Will there be subtitles for any of the Monologues?
Thank you,
Alex Austin
