Many contemporary theatremakers use multiple technologies in their studio practice. Editing sound and video in real time, programming light, sound, and video cues, cutting, pasting, and interpolating found and original texts, choreography, and even data visualization are part of the theatremaking process and ever-expanding toolkit. Pioneering director Marianne Weems and renowned scholar Shannon Jackson’s new book on the history of The Builders Association will serve as the starting point for a panel discussion with Lars Jan, André M. Zachery and others.

Sunday 17 January
UTR/Culturebot Roundtable Conversation: Destroyer of Worlds

12 p.m. EST (New York) / 11 a.m. CST (Chicago) / 9 a.m. PST (Los Angeles) / 17:00 GMT

How does theatre create and destroy worlds on stage? Join UTR artists Janani Balasubramanian, Abigail Browde, Guillermo Calderón, Michael Silverstone, and Alok Vaid-Menon and members of NYC's theatre community in an open conversation about what it means to devise and construct new worlds onstage, and how visiting these worlds—as artists or audience—destroy, resurrect, or transform our lived experience of this world.
