Capt. Glenn O. Wofford, Jr. retired from the Marine Corps in 1994 after 20 years of active duty. Glenn enlisted in 1974 right out of high school. In 1976, Sgt. Wofford was selected for the B.O.O.S.T. (Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training Program). Subsequently, in 1981, SSgt Wofford received his degree from Texas A&M University and his commission as a Marine Corps 2ndLt. In his career he served with the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, CA; the Basic School for officers at Quantico, VA; the Force Service Support Group at Camp Lejeune, NC; Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, GA; and the Marine Reserve Force in New Orleans, LA where he retired and still lives with his wife, Melissa. He and his wife are both volunteers and residents with Bastion, an intentional community for veterans and their families in the Gentilly area of New Orleans.

Joe Hargrove III (AKA DJ Tank) is a US Army retiree, who served 22 years as a Chemical Operations NCO, holding numerous positions throughout his military career from 1985-2007. He grew up in New Orleans’ Broadmoor neighborhood, and received a music scholarship to attend Grambling State University. He majored in chemistry and minored in biology. He was also a member of the world-famed Tiger Marching Band and traveled around the world playing the trumpet, trombone and percussion. He is the proud father of a son who owns his own company, and he has lived at Bastion for four years and is a very active member of the community. He recently joined the Bastion staff as Headway Program Assistant, providing support to veterans with TBI.

Community Partner Organizations

Bastion provides a supportive living environment for injured veterans and families within our intentionally designed neighborhood by augmenting their care with neighbors, volunteers, and specialists for a holistic approach to community integration.

Warrior Writers is a veteran-focused arts organization that fosters artistic exploration and expression through casual, welcoming workshops and retreats. By reflecting and creating in a comfortable space, we encourage and support healing and community building. Art making becomes the creative tool through which we understand and transcend experiences of trauma and emotional disruptions that are not easily identified but constantly felt.
