Introducing May, HowlRound Content Editor!
The HowlRound team is thrilled to welcome May Antaki as our new Content Editor! May will be part of our editorial conversations around Journal content, and will work closely with contributors to ensure their ideas are being expressed as fully and clearly as possible.
May is a Toronto-based editor, writer, and producer originally from Montreal.
After fortuitously stumbling into the world of theatre through a rec league softball team made up entirely of stage artists, May co-founded the Canadian theatre magazine Intermission. As co-editor-in-chief, she works with artists and writers to tell stories about the art form through essays and journalism.
For almost a decade, May has been editing novels, memoirs, short stories, articles, and, really, anything with words. She has worked in publishing for the Banff Centre for the Arts, in publications development at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, and as a speechwriter and editor for WE Day, a youth empowerment event.
May holds a finance degree from Concordia University and has completed writing and editing courses at the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, and the Quebec Writers’ Federation. At some point, she wants to write a novel based on her grandmother’s life in Cairo between the 1930s and 1960s. In the meantime, she spends her free time exploring her city by bike, drinking coffee, reading books, and taking road trips with friends.
Please join us in welcoming May—we're happy to have her!
