The Dramatists Guild of America presented a discussion about Immersive Theatre with Pittsburgh's Bricolage Production Company livestreamed on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Monday 25 November at 3 p.m. PST / 5 p.m. CST / 6 p.m. EST / 23:00 GMT.

The recent wave of immersive theatre (including Punchdrunk's Sleep No More and Bricolage's STRATA, featured on the cover of August’s American Theatre Magazine and also in The Dramatist Jan/Feb 2013 Technology issue) challenges how we define playwriting and theatrical experience. This exciting discussion explores the role of the writer in the creation of immersive and site-specific theatre, in particular, the immersive urban adventure STRATA (Pittsburgh).

In the summer of 2012, the citizens of Pittsburgh were introduced to STRATA, a daring experiment in immersive theatre, a co-production between Bricolage Theatre and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Ticket-holders were given a secret location in the downtown area at which they would be greeted at a set date and time, by their “refitnessing counselor.” Billed as “Pittsburgh’s First Refitnessing Center” STRATA was the brainchild of a team of writers, directors, actors and designers, among them, playwright Gab Cody and director Sam Turich, who will join Roland Tec for a discussion of this groundbreaking piece of theatre.
